Texas Knows How to Tailgate

We’ve seen the Longhorn fans tailgate like there was no tomorrow at three Rose Bowl Games in the past six years. But this was the first time we were able to experience Texas hospitality on their home turf.

This was the best tailgate we found close to the stadium and it started revving up a few hours before game time.  They had a large screen with the Alabama-Penn State game on, plenty of seating, a very good live band that played original tunes and an array of covers by Aerosmith, Cream, and ZZ Top, to name a few. It’s underwritten by several sponsors, including Cover 3, Austin’s only high-end sports bar restaurant, Scorpion Tactical rifles, State Farm, and a couple local spirits distributors. The cost was a “donation” of $10 for food/drink- no alcohol and $20 for food with alcohol.

If you brought an appetite with you, you could dig into BBQ ribs, roasted quail, roasted chicken wrapped in bacon, cole slaw, spicy mac ‘n cheese, pork ‘n beans, garlic green beans, five layer bean dip, nachos, and an assortment of cookies, brownies and cake.
