Uh, Houston, we’ve got a problem. The Cougars stumbled against lowly UTEP and dropped out of the RF365 Power Ranking as quickly as they leaped into it. Say goodbye to Cal and Michigan, too. The top-ranked Gators face their toughest test of the season this week on the road in Baton Rouge.

1. FLORIDA GATORS/SEC (4-0). They know how to take care of Gator problems down in Louisiana. If Tebow isn’t taking the snaps for Florida this weekend, Numero Uno is going down.
2. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE/SEC (5-0). The Tide took care of business against Kentucky last week, 38-20, but Mississippi poses the biggest trap game for them until Auburn at the end of the season.
3. TEXAS LONGHORNS/Big 12 (4-0). Texas is coming off a bye week and the ‘Horns are anxious to chew up the Colorado Buffaloes this Saturday in a tune-up for the Red River Shootout on Oct 17.

4. USC TROJANS/Pac-10 (4-1). The Boys of Troy looked sharp in blasting Cal on the road last Saturday night, 30-3. They get a bye this week before they take on the surprising Fighting Irish in South Bend on Oct 17.
5. LSU TIGERS/SEC (5-0). The Tigers were impressive in knocking off a solid Georgia team in Athens, 20-13. They’ll pull a few offensive tricks out of Gary Crowton’s bag this weekend and knock off the Gators as long as Tim Tebow doesn’t play.
6. VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES/ACC (4-1). Everyone expected the Hokies would get a breather on the road at Duke, but they struggled to put the game away, 34-26. ACC foe Boston College comes to Blacksburg this Saturday.
7. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES/Big Ten (4-1). The Buckeyes spanked the Indiana Hoosiers 33-14 but they cannot relax with the surging 5-0 Wisconsin Badgers invading the Horseshoe this week in a key Big Ten battle.
8. CINCINNATI BEARCATS/Big East (5-0). The Bearcats took care of Miami (Ohio) last Saturday 37-13 and have this weekend off in preparation for next Thursday night’s crucial Big East showdown at South Florida.
9. TEXAS CHRISTIAN HORNED FROGS/MWC (4-0). The Frogs closed out their nonconference schedule by spanking longtime rival Southern Methodist, 39-14. They open Mountain West Conference play in Colorado Springs against the Air Force Academy this weekend.
10. MIAMI HURRICANES/ACC (3-1). The Hurricane edged the Sam Bradford-less Oklahoma Sooners, 21-20. Now they get to sort out their color scheme with the D-1AA Florida A&M Rattlers this weekend.
11. OKLAHOMA SOONERS/Big 12 (2-2). Don’t let their 2-2 won-loss record fool you. The Sooners are just two points away from being undefeated after losses without Sam Bradford to fellow Power Ranking foes BYU and Miami. Big 12 rival Baylor comes to town this weekend.
12. BOISE STATE BRONCOS/WAC (5-0). The Broncos toyed around with Div 1-AA U.C. Davis last weekend, 34-16. They have the weekend off as they prep for a match-up with Tulsa next Wednesday.
13. IOWA HAWKEYES/Big Ten (5-0). The Hawkeyes struggled at home with Arkansas State last week, pulling out a 24-21 nail-biter. They tend to let their guard down when playing inferior opponents. We’ll find out just how good the Hawkeye defense is this Saturday when Michigan rolls into Iowa City.
14. GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS/ACC (4-1). The Yellow Jackets’ offense rolled against Mississippi State on the road last weekend, 42-31. This Saturday night’s ACC road trip to Tallahassee against a reeling Seminole team won’t be a cakewalk.
15. PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS/Big Ten (4-1). The Nittany Lions looked solid in a 35-17 win over Illinois. They cop a breather this weekend against another Land of Lincoln team, D-1AA Eastern Illinois.
16. MISSISSIPPI REBELS/SEC (3-1). Ole Miss dispatched Vanderbilt, 23-7, and can take control of the SEC west division with a victory over Alabama this Saturday. Don’t underestimate the Rebels at home.
17. OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS/Big 12 (3-1). The Cowboys had a bye last week and travel to Texas A&M this Saturday. Losing Dez Bryant is a huge setback in OSU’s ability to challenge for the Big 12 title this year.
18. AUBURN TIGERS/SEC (5-0). The Tigers continue to prove they’re for real with a road win over Tennessee keeping them perfect thru the first five games. They’ll travel to Arkansas this week.
19. BYU COUGARS/MWC (4-1). Brigham Young knocked off regional rival Utah State last Friday, 35-17. They take on Mountain West foe UNLV in Vegas this weekend.
20. OREGON DUCKS/Pac-10 (4-1). The Quacks dominated Pac-10 cellar dweller Washington State, 52-6, but let’s see how they fare on the road this weekend against UCLA.
21. KANSAS JAYHAWKS/Big 12 (4-0). The Jayhawks enjoyed a bye and host Iowa State this weekend.
22. WISCONSIN BADGERS/Big Ten (5-0). The Badgers put away a tough Minnesota Gopher team last weekend, 31-28, but that road game won’t be anything like Wisconsin will face in Columbus this Saturday.
23. NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH/Independent (4-1). The Irish are gaining confidence every week but we’ll have to wait until Oct 17 when they host USC to find out if they’re for real this season.
24. SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS/Big East (5-0). The Bulls won at Syracuse last weekend, 34-20, to remain undefeated. They’ll host Cincinnati next Thursday night in a huge conference tilt.
25. STANFORD CARDINAL/Pac-10 (4-1). Jim Harbaugh has done wonders in Palo Alto. Led by Heisman contender Toby Gerhart, the Cardinal took care of UCLA last week and ran their conference record to 3-0. They head to Corvallis to take on Oregon State this Saturday.
