Oregon is not only #1 – they also have a schedule that looks like clear sailing the rest of the season. USC was really about the last chance a Pac-10 team had to knock the Ducks off their flight south to Glendale, Arizona for the national title game on January 10.

#1 The only ones making Duck Soup the rest of the season are the Webfoots themselves. They toyed with the Trojans for a couple frames before dispatching them 53-32. Next up: Washington
#2 Boise State thumped on Louisiana Tech 49-20. They’ll entertain Hawaii next weekend in their march to another WAC title.
#3 TCU dropped UNLV 48-6. Ho-hum.  The Fantastic Frogs have the best defense in the land. It would be sweet to see them matched up with Oregon in the national title game.  Their last big hurdle of the regular season comes this week at Utah.
#4 Cam Newton has become, hands down, the leading favorite on everyone’s list for the Heisman Trophy.  The Tigers took care of business against Mississippi last week, 51-31, and they get a breather with Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday.
#5 The Crimson Tide had a much-needed bye. They travel to Baton Rouge to take on one-loss LSU this week.
#6 South Carolina took care of SEC business by defeating Tennessee, 38-24. They have  a doozy of a home game coming up this week with Arkansas paying a visit.
#7 The Sooners stampeded the Colorado Buffaloes 43-20 in the last meeting between these two programs for years to come. Okie takes on Texas A&M this Saturday.
#8 LSU has already racked up four wins over AP Top 20 teams. They had a bye week to get ready to host Alabama this week.
#9 Arkansas is a dangerous team that needs to establish some consistency in their execution. They slammed Vanderbilt last week, 49-14, and head to Columbia, S.C. this Saturday to take on Steve Spurrier’s  Gamecocks.
#10 Utah struggled on the road against Air Force – like they do every other year. Still, they came away with a 28-23 win. They host #3 Texas Christian this weekend with the Mountain West title on the line.
#11 The Badgers had a bye last week and take on Purdue in Big Ten action this Saturday.
#12 Ohio State was the latest Big Ten foe to stomp on the Minnesota train wreck with a 52-10 win last week. They get a well deserved bye this weekend.
#13 Stanford skunked Washington in Seattle, 41-0. Wow. This Cardinal team hasn’t been like this since the days of Jim Plunkett. They host #15 Arizona this weekend.
#14 The Cornhuskers are hanging around in a big way with their impressive 31-17 victory over the previously undefeated Missouri Tigers. They take on Iowa State this week.
#15 Arizona took care of UCLA in Rose Bowl Stadium last weekend, 29-21. Too bad they won’t be able to play there on New Year’s Day 2011 because they have the toughest stretch of games they’ve every faced this late in the year: at Stanford, USC, at Oregon, ASU.
#16 Michigan State is still a very good team despite getting smashed by Iowa last Saturday, 37-6. They get to take their whacks at the cellar dweller Gophers this weekend.
